Performance Studies A2 Level (OCR) at Ryburn Valley High School

Course description

To introduce you to the language of dramatic arts through a series of practical workshops and lecture/demonstrations.You will have the opportunity to work alongside professional artists in order to improve your existing skills and acquire new ways of working.The main focus of the course is upon Drama but Physical Theatre, Dance and Music will also be studied. Poetry, prose, history, painting and music will help to provide the stimulus for a variety of performance pieces. The course will provide you with a strong foundation for further study in any, or all of the Performance Arts. The lively mixture of practical performance work and theory ensures that all students enjoy and understand the importance of art in our everyday lives.It provides the 'springboard' into a variety of Higher Education courses and is a valuable qualification in itself.The communication skills gained help to create confident, articulate citizens. It can lead to a variety of careers such as : Teaching, acting, dancing, television, radio, film, Public Relations and many more besides.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Drama or Dance to prepare for higher education in the Performing Arts or more general higher education courses. With further training you could go into a job related to the Performing Arts such as a Chorographer, Theatre Director, or you may wish to perform on the stage.The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially within the Performing Arts sectors.
