Applied Science A Level at Benfield School

Course description

If you are interested in how scientific concepts are used in the real world then this course will be of interest to you.  Rather than specialising in a particular area of science, the Applied Science course covers aspects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and explores how they are used in industry and society in general.

This is a nationally recognised qualification which is accepted by Universities and Colleges.  It can also assist with access onto a variety of courses that require a science based qualification, such as Nursing.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on a portfolio of coursework that they produce over four units: Science at work; Analysis at work; Investigating the Scientist's Work; Ecology and the Environment.  A residential field trip takes place, usually in the summer of Year 12, and all students are expected to attend.  The field trip allows you to develop your knowledge of ecology and develop the practical skills necessary in this field.
