Further Mathematics A level at Leyton Sixth Form College

Course description

This subject enters the world of Einstein, building up a substantial knowledge of Pure and Applied Mathematics. An enthusiasm for Mathematics is essential for this demanding course.

We would recommend that you take this option if you are very keen on following Mathematics related subjects at University.

Course content

AS level Further Maths

AS Further maths can be taken in either the first year or the second year of study.

You will take: Further Pure Maths 1, Mechanics 1 and Decision Maths 1.

  • Further Pure Maths 1: includes series, complex numbers, numerical solutions, matrix algebra and proof.
  • Mechanics 1: includes kinematics, vectors, dynamics, statics of a particle and moments.
  • Decision maths 1: includes algorithms, critical path analysis, linear programming and matching.

A2 level Further Maths

A2 Further maths is only available to those students who have studied AS Further Maths in the first year.

You will take:

  • Further Pure Maths 2
  • Further Pure Maths 3
  • Mechanics 2

Entry requirements

G Score of 36.

Future opportunities

You may progress to higher education to study Maths, Economics, Business, Accountancy, Computing, Engineering and many more subjects. There are also many careers where Maths is useful, e.g. accountancy, actuarial work, engineering, etc. If you are considering applying for a Maths related course at a competitive University you are strongly advised to do Further Maths at least to AS Level.
