Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 at Dixons Allerton Academy

Course description

This is a brand new course, is mainly practical and gives you the opportunity to explore a wide variety of genres and skills within the Performing Arts sector.

You will need to be committed to regular after-school rehearsals and performances and ensure you are always willing to show your skills in class and to audiences in shows and concerts.

This course will develop skills in either/all of the following areas: acting, rehearsing, performing, theatre and choreography skills as well as transferable skills in communication, presentation and leadership.

Course content

  • Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners Work (exam board assessed)
  • Unit 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performances (teacher assessed)
  • Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop (exam board assessed)
  • Unit 19: Acting Styles

Entry requirements

Level 2 Pass in Drama or C grade at GCSE and grade 5 in English


The exam board assessed work will consist of filming some performances and written work through an exam. The assessment of other units will be through journals, blog entries, written essays and lots of filming footage of your rehearsals and final performances. Please be aware that some performances may be on an evening.

Careers and Opportunities for Further Study

The qualification will particularly support entry to degrees where knowledge of the Performing Arts sector will help.

You may wish to apply for a Drama School after Post-16, which can lead to screen acting, stage acting, directing, writing and more production based roles.
