Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma at Lowestoft College
This course will equip you with the skills to work in the health and beauty industry. The aim of the course is to give you the basic skills to enable you to provide basic beauty services to clients.
Areas covered include:
- Maintaining employment and health and safety standards
- Client care, professionalism and communication
- Promote additional services and products to clients
- Effective teamwork and relationships with clients and colleagues
- Manicure and pedicure
- Facial treatments - skincare techniques and facial massage
- Eyebrow and lash treatments - tinting and eyebrow shaping
- Depilation - hot and warm waxing
- Applied science
- Provide make-up services
- Enhance appearance using skin camouflage make-up
You will need to be an excellent communicator, have a good degree of artistic skill and understand basic rules of chemistry, physics and
human anatomy. You will need good physical stamina and be highly dextrous. Your personality should be vibrant, strong and interesting and you should be diplomatic, sympathetic and calm.
We look for three to five GCSE C grades (including English, maths and science) and you will be assessed as part of the interview process.
Your personal tutor will discuss your progress with you at regular tutorials. Practical assessments will be observed by an assessor and you will be expected to build a professional portfolio of evidence consisting of written assignments and workpacks. Having achieved Level 2 you may progress on to Level 3. You will have to attend an interview where your achievement will be evaluated. You will have had to have shown excellent standards of attendance, behaviour and punctuality during your Level 2 qualification
Upon completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma before finding employment in the industry in salons, spas, the retail industry or wedding services. You could also apply for an apprenticeship or continue training and specialise in make-up techniques (TV, theatrical or photographic), sports therapy, reflexology, remedial massage techniques, complementary therapies or aromatherapy.
You may also choose to undertake an apprenticeship where you will be able to demonstrate the skills you have learnt and gain invaluable experience working in the industry.
Past students have gone in various different directions; the beauty industry as a career path is very diverse. We have a make-up artist working for BBC, salon owners, salon chain owners, cruise ship therapists, lecturers, therapists working in spas abroad and the list goes on…..
