Level 3 BTEC National Subsidary Diploma in Performing Arts (DANCE) at Paignton Community Sports Academy

Course description

A BTEC National is a practical, vocational course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You focus specifically on Dance and develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge. What will I be learning? Compulsory units: Dance Performance (students must dance in at least 3 performances, Performing to an Audience (a performance project) 4 specialised units chosen from the following: Choreographing Dance, Dance Improvisation, Ballet Technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Jazz Dance, Tap Dance, Developing Movement Skills, Dance Appreciation, Site-specific Performance International Dance. How will I learn/ be assessed? Units are assessed through a series of assignments which set out tasks for the dancers to complete and that are related to the unit grading criteria. Each assignment is assessed at a Pass, Merit or Distinction level and overall grade then awarded for the unit. The final grade for the qualification is then calculated from the outcome of each unit. All tasks are assessed through evidence of practical participation in lessons, workshops and rehearsals, the dancer’s own working logbook and performances.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C, Minimum of grade C or above in GCSE Dance or Merit in BTEC Dance or other related dance experience RAD/ ISTD Examinations
