Work Skills at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

This course is for people looking for work, starting out in a job orthinking about going to university.It will help you write CVs and letters of application and give you useful interview skills and techniques as well as encouraging you to think about yourworking environment. It should help you to find a job or to go to university.

 

WorkSkills builds on the ABC of employability: Attitude, Behaviour and Communication.

 

 

 

 

Course content

Students can select from a wide variety of modules to personalise their learning and produce a package which best suits their needs. There are over 40 units available in a variety of topics including: Career Progression, Managing Money, Applying for a Job, Effectiveness at Work, Managing Health at Work, Working in a Team, Speaking Confidently at Work, Contribution to Meetings, Producing a Product, Interview Skills, Presenting Accurate Documents, Running an Enterprise Activity. The course will be delivered through taught sessions with students carrying out practical hands-on tasks.

Entry requirements

For all levels, you must be 14 years or over. Level 2 students should have achieved GCSE's D-G, or be working at GCSE levels A*-C in school, Level 3 students should have achieved 4 GCSE's A*-C.

 

Assessment

Students are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. There is a requirement for students to demonstrate competence in a suitable work environment, this maybe through employment, classroom simulationor extended work placement. Students must be able to demonstrate competence to the assessor through observations and the collection of work based evidence. Thereare no formal, external examinations. Each unit is assessed separately so that unit certification can be awarded where necessary.
