Course description

Why study the Subsidiary Diploma in Information Technology? The Subsidiary Diploma in Information Technology is a qualification which allows you to gain a thorough understanding of computer systems and the management of information technology. This course is equivalent to one A Level. You will have to study two compulsory units and you will study four options chosen from a wide range. In the compulsory units you will learn about the different operating systems and learn how to set up and maintain computer systems. You will also study four options, chosen from a wide range. Typical examples include managing networks, database management and spreadsheet modelling. You will be assessed by the completion of a portfolio of evidence. This may be written, audio, visual or through presentations and practical activities. An example/illustration of the type of work involved - Installing software and hardware and providing a justification for the choice of hardware or software. Configuring basic system settings and suggesting how systems and settings could be improved.

Entry requirements

GCSE at grade C or BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate or OCR National at Merit

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you will be suited to progress to study for a degree in information technology or any related degree or training or employment.
