Aviation Environment - Level 2 Extended Certificate at East Surrey College

Course description

This course has been designed especially for those who wish to pursue a career in the aviation industry. The course will provide you with a broad knowledge and understanding of the sector and equip you with the right skills to pursue a variety of different career opportunities in this interesting and challenging field. Students on this course will benefit from the opportunity of attending site visits to various aviation organisations and events to develop technical skills and see first-hand the exciting opportunities the industry has to offer. The course focuses on principles of flight, airmanship and communications. Given our close proximity to Gatwick, the second largest airport in the UK, these subjects are of direct relevance to future employment in the area, either as a member of airport or airline staff, or the many supporting industries located close by. In addition you will gain the opportunity to acquire essential skills that will be recognised by employers, or you can build on this with further learning for two additional years on the Extended Diploma in Aviation Operations or Aeronautical Engineering. For those who wish there will be an opportunity to gain air experience in a glider.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-D including English & Maths


Assessments will be regular throughout the year with a variety of methods including project work, presentations, observation of practical activity and written assignments.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.
