Course description

This programme is designed to provide a broad educational basis for training, higher education or employment within the business sector. It is especially suitable for self-motivated students who enjoy completing coursework.

Course content

The full course consists of units including:

  • exploring business activity
  • investigating business resources
  • marketing
  • effective people, communication and information

On the course you will:

  • develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to progress in business
  • understand the different activities of businesses
  • examine how businesses fit into the wider community

Entry requirements

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE, including English Language (grade 9-5).

Assessment

Assessment is entirely through internally assessed coursework. There are no examinations.

Future opportunities

Combined with other advanced level options, this subject will prepare you to progress to university to complete a degree in Business or a related area such as Finance, Management or Economics. You may also choose to move straight to employment in the business sector.

Further information

The one-year Certificate is equivalent to an AS-level. The two-year Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to an A-level.

    • Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) is London's largest sixth form college, offering full-time courses for 16 to 19-year-olds. NewVIc offers over 50 A Level subjects, 31 level 2 and 3 vocational programmes, as well as foundation, entry level and ESOL programmes.

      It is a diverse and friendly learning community, with an outstanding record of achievement. In 2013, 767 students progressed to university (91% of all applicants); 130 students gained places at the most selective universities, including 60 at Russell Group universities.

      The NewVIc Honours Programme is unique and provides academically gifted students with specialist pathways, a tailored curriculum and support for progression to the most selective universities.

      NewVIc has excellent sports facilities and is one of four London colleges accredited with Sports Leadership status. The college's extra-curricular enrichment programme is aimed at developing employability and leadership skills through various activities including mentoring, the Student Union and volunteering in the community.
