Course description

Mathematics is a very challenging yet rewarding subject with many transferable skills desirable to prospective future employers or educational establishments. If you are studying Physics, this combines very well with Further Mathematics due to the mechanics units.

The Decision Mathematics unit in A2 combines well with topics in Business Studies. Mathematics is a very challenging yet rewarding subject with many transferable skills desirable to prospective future employers or educational establishments.

The course covers the three main branches of mathematics.

Core Mathematics: extending the GCSE work on angles, algebra, functions and graphs. Statistics: extending the probability and handling data work from GCSE. Decision Mathematics: applying algorithms to solve real life logistical problems that arise in business. All units are equally weighted and are each assessed by a written paper of 90 minute duration.

Entry requirements

It is expected that most students will have achieved at least a B grade at GCSE in Mathematics.
