Sport BTEC National Extended Certificate at Holly Lodge 11-19 Science College
A broad basis of study for the sport sector.
Pupils will complete the following units over two years:
Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology (120 GLH).
Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well Being (120 GLH).
Unit 3 - Professional Development in the Sports Industry (60 GLH).
Unit 5 – Application of Fitness Testing (60 GLH).
Relevant points score at GCSE subjects is required to attend sixth form and GCSE PE would be a desirable addition to support pupils learning and progress within Btec Sport.
Pupils complete 2 externally assessed mandatory units and 1 mandatory and 1 optional unit that are assessed by the class teacher. 2 units will be complete in year 12 and 2 units in year 13.
Unit 1 - Written examination set and marked by Pearson lasting 1.5 hours and worth 90 marks.
Unit 2 - A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions. In Part A, learners will be provided with a case study two weeks before a supervised assessment period in order to carry out research. In Part B, the supervised assessment period is two hours over a period of two days timetabled by Pearson. It is a Written submission worth 60 marks.
Unit 3 - 2 Summative assessments which are internally marked.
Unit 5 - 2 Summative assessments which are internally marked.
The sports qualification will allow progress to a university course in sport or work within a sporting context. This qualification should be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels to support the progress beyond sixth form.
