Creative & Media Production Level 3 BTEC Diploma at Suffolk One

Course description

This course offers students a challenging and stimulating introduction to this expanding field. They will get a good grounding in the skills used in a range of media-related areas including television, film, publishing and animation.

Course content

The course has particular reference to writing, editing and filming for production. The work is accomplished using excellent facilities including digital video using Final Cut, audio editing using Logic and digital stills imaging using Adobe Creative Suite. There are an abundance of iMacs, MacBooks and DV cameras to use, and students will have support from a team of specialised media tutors and technicians. Students also study and practice the vital media skills of managing productions, working in teams, researching, interviewing and presenting. Underpinning the vocational side of the course is the analytical study of Audiences, Institutions and Products to enable students to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a variety of sectors of the media industry.

Entry requirements

At least four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language, Maths and Media (if taken); or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level. You will also need to commit to an additional 12 hours of study per week. Students must have an enthusiastic interest in Creative Media Production which should be demonstrated at a successful portfolio interview .

Assessment

Coursework assignments include the planning and production of an advertising campaign, location assignments, producing films, documentaries and other production projects. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following the assessment of a Final Major Project.

Future opportunities

Opportunities for work in the media industries are intensely competitive, but students have found that this qualification prepares them for a variety of vocational contexts, as well as equipping them with the study skills required for higher education.
