Music BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at The Bourne Academy
The BTEC course is an exciting course that is designed for people with a real enthusiasm for music. This course is mainly practical and you will learn through practical workshops and performances. This course is equivalent of three A-levels and is a two year course.
You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations within the Music Industry. The course will develop and support your performing as well as developing events management skills by putting on events both in the Academy and in the community. You will develop your skills within music technology and our newly equipped music teaching spaces will ensure the space you work in is inspirational.
The course is made up of a mixture of 17 units- four core units and twelve specialist units selected by tutors to best suit individual strengths.

Students will need to have four or more A*-C grades at GCSE, a BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject. External candidates will need to follow an audition process involving a two minute performance on their chosen musical instrument and interview.
All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Throughout the course there will be opportunities for you to develop your personal, learning and thinking skills. You need to be able to work creatively, develop chosen ideas practically and shape them into performances pieces
This course is designed to prepare you for a vast range of jobs in the Music Industry as a musician, events manager and producer. BTEC Level 3 Diplomas are valued by employers and by universities. It also provides students with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes which are all essential for working life in general.
Within the two years of the course you will have opportunities to learn through performance projects such as the School Production, Summer Music Café as well as developing your own schedule of performance events. You will work alongside professional artists who are currently involved with the industry.
