ART & DESIGN at Royds School
Students will be introduced to a variety of different experiences exploring a range of 2D and 3D media, processes and techniques. Students will use a range of material to produce practical work including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, illustration, animation, photography, cermacis and sculpture. Students will learn about different artists and movements and use this knowledge to inspire creative work.
Students work to a set vocational brief, developing their knowledge and understanding of the subject. As well as developing their creativity and independence in working to a deadline. In Year 12 students all work to the same briefs, one of which is based on drawing and painting, and the other on 3D materials and sculpture. In Year 13 students work on a common theme, but get to choose which Art discipline to focus on.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above and English grade 5 or above.
Students have to cover 3 mandatory units, 1 unit of own choice. 2 units are assessed by teachers and 2 are externally assessed. All work is graded with a Pass, Merit or Distinction. It is equivalent to one A level.
Students will be required to provide sketchbooks, general art materials to assist with home learning and any specific materials for final pieces e.g. canvasses. School will provide materials for using in lessons.
There will be visits to galleries and museums.
Progression on to Foundation and Degree courses:
Fine Art, Fashion, Textiles, Illustration, Photography, Industrial Design, Jewellery, Interior Design, Ceramics and Graphic design.
