Art and Design BTEC Foundation Diploma at Wilberforce College

Course description

The full time Foundation Diploma (BTEC) in Art and Design will ensure that you gain the opportunities to build on skills learnt to enable you to access higher education courses in Art and Design. With guidance from tutors you will be equipped to make an informed and confident application to a specialist degree or other related programme. You will have developed a substantial portfolio of work that you will be confident in regarding applications to Higher Education courses at degree level and your team of teachers will guide you through your application process to make the right choice for you.

Course content

YEAR ONE UNITS During the first term you will develop skills further in drawing, experimentation with media and making connections with other approaches. You will then work within a chosen specialist area to develop a personal portfolio in one of the following areas:

  • Photography
  • Fine Art
  • Textiles
  • Fashion
  • Illustration
  • Graphics

Skills already acquired by you will be refined through focused learning and independent studio time to prepare you for higher education and employment environments. You will be able to choose the discipline which is the most appropriate match for your individual creative personality and as you develop through the course you will decide on a personal direction within a chosen specialism. The course culminates in a final project which builds upon the skills previously learned.

Entry requirements

4 or more GCSE grade A* - C or equivalent in 3 or more subjects including a minimum grade D at GCSE English Language. Students must have passed an A Level Art course at a minimum grade C or achieved DMM on a Level 3 vocational Art course.
