Photography A Level at Havant Sixth form College
As well as giving you a creative outlet that lets you put your visual ideas into practice, Photography combines well with a huge range of other subjects. Many careers involve some aspect of photography, ranging from journalism and film, to radiography or surveying.
This is a really dynamic course that will provide you with a huge range of skills and will encourage you to be as imaginative and creative as possible. You will learn about all aspects of digital photography including camera and lighting techniques, and photo manipulation using the latest editing software. You will also look at the changing styles and traditions in photography and develop critical skills and knowledge of other photographers, artists and designers.
You will requiire five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Mathematics.
Students accepted onto art based courses would normally have a full GCSE in Art & Design at grade 4 or above, it may be possible to start without a GCSE in Art by submission of a portfolio at interview.
Coursework, where you produce your own portfolio of work, and an exam where you will carry out a project under timed conditions at the end of the Second Year.
Students can progress into employment or onto visual pathways within Higher Education from this A Level. The FAD course can be studied within Havant Sixth Form College as a natural progression from A Levels. We would expect students following a path related to this subject to progress into areas such as photography, medical illustration, marketing, advertising, PR, media communication, film, cinematics, multimedia journalism, cultural studies, new media and digital imaging.
You will be able to make use of the extensive workshop and studio facilities whilst working with teachers who are practising photographers. You will be able to participate in local, national and international gallery visits, artist’s workshops and public art projects. You are able to study Photography alongside other art based courses as part of a ‘double art’ programme. You will need a specialist ‘portfolio’ interview with a member of the Art Department if you wish to apply for a double Art & Design programme. Full support and portfolio building is given to potential Higher Education and Pre-Degree Foundation students. At the end of the course you will be able to showcase your work in a high-profile public exhibition.
