ICT BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Cowes Enterprise College

Course description

This course is the equivalent to one A level at the end of two years. This qualification is designed for students who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in IT.

Course content

Students will be taught:

  • Theory relating to Information Technology Systems
  • How to create systems to manage information
  • How to use social media in business

Students will be able to gain an understanding of the relationships between IT systems’ hardware and software. The way systems work individually and together, the relationship between the user and the system, use of IT systems’ issues and their impact on organisations and individuals.

They will also develop a common core of IT knowledge through the study of areas such as managing and processing data using IT to communicate and share information. In the second year, students will work through two more units in website development and the use of IT in business.

Entry requirements

A profile of strong GCSE grades with an interest in digital technologies. The course will require regular access to a computer outside lesson time. Academy computers can be
available at certain times but having access to a computer at home would be an  advantage.

Assessment

  • 75% coursework assessment including e-portfolio
  • 25% externalassessment completed on the computer and submitted digitally
