I&CT (Information and Creative Technology) BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Brooklands College
The main emphasis of this course is on developing a wide variety of practical skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Creative Technologies. The course will help you build the skills and knowledge that employers in this sector require.
This is the course for you if you are interested in how ICT is used in business and industry.
You will study nine units including creating a digital portfolio that will enable you to showcase your skills.
Seven units will be coursework and internally assessed. Two units will be externally assessed, which will include a multiple choice test.
The units you will study are:
• The Online World
• A Digital Portfolio
• Creating Digital Animation
• Creating Digital Graphics
• Spreadsheet Development
• Technology Systems
• Database Development
• Website Development
• Mobile Apps Development
You need 5 GCSE passes at grade D or above (including 1 C in an appropriate subject) or Full DiDA Level 1 or equivalent.
You will be assessed through assignments (two units will be externally assessed).
There are various textbooks available for this course and there may be visits and events which are an essential part of the course. Costs will be advised by your tutor. However there are extensive guidance notes and online resources for students to use.
This can be treated as the equivalent of 3 GCSEs and can be used with your other qualifications to progress onto the level 3 BTEC National Subsidiary / Extended Diploma in IT, or other subjects, providing you meet any specific entry requirements. Alternatively you could go straight into employment or an IT Apprenticeship.
Examples of job roles that students on this course may go onto include: IT Systems Support, Software Developer, IT Apprenticeship.
