Travel Services (Tour Operators - Head Office) Apprenticeship Intermediate at East Berkshire College

Course description


All Apprenticeships consist of a Framework of different elements. They must include qualifications that, when achieved, prove the Apprentice's competence in carrying out work of the Level and type identified in the Framework.

Also included must be qualifications which demonstrate the technical knowledge of the job and industry, plus more wide ranging general skills required to operate successfully in the trade; these will include Maths, English and, if appropriate, ICT and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.

The different elements can be combined in one qualification, or be covered in separate qualifications, but all elements must be achieved to obtain a full Apprentice Certificate.

Course content

The Competency qualification in the Apprenticeship is Level 2 Travel Services.

NVQ Diploma in competence units The qualification has a flexible structure which enables employers and apprentices to select a spiky skills profile to reflect the job role most accurately.

To achieve a Level 2 candidates need to complete:

  • Worldwide Travel & Tourism Destinations
  • Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel & Tourism

Additional units selecting from:

  • Travel & Tourism Support Services
  • Business Travel Planning
  • Travel Planning
  • UK Travel & Tourism Destinations
  • Air Fares & Ticketing (IATA Level 1)

Entry requirements

Different Apprenticeships have different entry requirements. However, the most important requirements are:

  • In contracted employment with a Retail Travel Company and have been for at least three months
  • Hold GCSE's or equivalent qualifications in English & Maths
  • Display a positive attitude and passion for the industry


You will be assessed within the college as well as the workplace to ensure all the competencies are met.

Regular review meetings will take place with your assessor and employer to support the achievement of the qualification.

Future opportunities

Following the Intermediate Apprenticeship, learners can progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship covering Level 3 Travel Services.

Following the completion of the apprenticeship, learners can expect to progress in the industry.

The Job will involve providing customers with advice and information about individual travel related products and trying to find the product which most accurately meets their needs. They help people to interpret the travel brochures and having provided advice and guidance they need to sell the product.
