Course description

This is a one-year course (equivalent to two GCSE’s) and is particularly of interest to those students who have completed an entry level or foundation course (or who are building a GCSE programme) and have an interest in the sport and exercise industry.

  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities

Entry requirements

  • A genuine interest in sport and exercise, and a willingness to learn and progress.
  • Four GCSE’s (including English Language and Maths at grade D) or a GNVQ Foundation at Merit

You will be required to use your initiative and be organised in order to meet assignment deadlines

Your assessments will be based on your portfolio of work, and each unit you complete is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

This course is a suitable preparation for progressing onto an advanced-level course, providing you achieve at least Merit grades. It would also provide a foundation for entering the sport and exercise industry at a later stage.

Further information

On this course you will be introduced to each topic before carrying out your own research to complete a set assignment, ranging from written reports to presentations, role-plays and simulations. The majority of work is completed independently but you will be expected to work in groups and teams.

You need an interest in at least 2 sports and should be willing to participate in practical activities. You must be prepared to take responsibility for your learning and manage your time well to meet deadlines.
