'On this course learners will gain an understanding of how places, landscapes and issues can change and how the human population responds to this. Geography will help you understand why events such as the Asian tsunami or the regeneration of Manchester occurred, whilst looking at the world’s natural and human environments and the links between them. The course comprises both physical and human geography with topics including: plate tectonics, coastal environments, changing urban and rural landscapes. There is also a study of geographical skills that takes in a number of transferable, valuable skills such as numeracy and decision-making. The second year focuses on current geographical themes and issues with topics including: the water and carbon cycle, migration, governance of the oceans and ecosystems. Fieldwork is essential to geography with trips to destinations in the UK and beyond planned throughout the course.
'5 GCSEs at grade C or above (to include a grade 4 in GCSE Maths or English)
'On completing this course, you will have the option of furthering your education through degree programmes in a related field or moving on to employment in a variety of careers such as, cartographer, commercial/residential surveyor, environmental consultant, planning and development surveyor and geographical information systems officer.
