French A2 at Warlingham School
French This course will help students improve to communicate at a higher level in French. The students will also learn about a wide range of aspects of the society or societies where French is spoken. Students will learn to read, understand and extract information from written passages in the target language that are taken from authentic sources, such as newspapers, magazines, reports, internet articles or books. Students will be able to listen to and understand contemporary spoken language taken from a range of sources such as news reports on the radio and TV, weather forecasts, announcements, interviews and discussions. Students will learn to write essays or longer pieces and to hold conversations and take part in discussions in French. They will learn the appropriate grammar, words and phrases to be able to present information in French, organise arguments, provide opinions and analyse ideas. The second year will continue the development of the skills nurtured in the first year through these topics: The environment and citizenship: energy, pollution, politics, campaigning organisations and charities. The international context: customs, traditions, beliefs, religion, the European Union and world-wide problems. Unit 4/1 oral discussion of issues OR 4/2 interpreting - 15 minutes -15% Unit 5/1 prepared topics and texts-2hours-15% Unit 6 listening and writing - 45 minutes - 5% reading and writing -45 minutes - 5% writing in registers - 1 hour 15 minutes - 10%
GCSE Grade B or above in French
You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector.
