Travel & Tourism Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma—Edexcel at Oak Academy

Course description

The Travel and Tourism Department ensure that each unit of study will consist of a number of individual assignments which are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
On completion of these assignments students will achieve an overall grade for that particular unit, earning points.
At the end of Year 12, there will be the option to ‘cash in’ these points to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction overall in the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Travel & Tourism (AS).
Alternatively, students may choose to continue into Year 13 and ‘cash in’ points at the end to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction overall in the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Travel & Tourism (A2).
The course is for two years and provides an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in any of the areas listed above.
Over this time, students will study a range of different units, all aimed at equipping them with the vital skills that employers are searching for. This may include:
• Investigating Travel and Tourism
• The UK as a Destination
• Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
• Long-haul Travel Destinations
• The Business of Travel and Tourism
• European Destinations
Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in the fastest growing industry in the UK. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, with tour operators and travel agents or involving tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment.
This type of work can offer exciting careers to those who like meeting people, want more than a routine job and are interested in travel. This two year course is aimed at providing students with the vital skills needed to enter employment within the industry.
