Art & Design at Felixstowe Academy

Course description

In an ever more visual world careers opportunities in art and design demand more than just a steady hand or eye for colour. Creativity - where form and function combine to ignite the senses is now key to developing a successful career in art. There are many occupations open to you and we will help you to build a winning portfolio to gain admission to art school. This programme offers you the opportunity to experience a wide range of subject areas e.g painting, printing, testiles, video and ICT as well as to specialise within one of two arts and our strong links will enable you to work with professional artistis.

Entry requirements

Grade C or higher at GCSE level. For candidates without a GCSE grade, a portfolio of work should be brought to an entry interview with members of the art department.


Submissions will be made in the form of a sketchbook or journal with the final outcomes displayed in an exhibition. Work is marked by subject staff and then checked by an outside moderator.

Future opportunities

The visual arts is a subject which helps promote creative thinking, a skill that is now much sought after across an extensive range of degree courses, and in integral part of the majority of professions.
