Caring for Children - Foundation Award (L1) at NEWTEC

Course description

This course is for people who would like to build up a secure foundation in childcare, literacy, numeracy and ICT as a first step to embarking on a career in working with children. This course is for people who would like a more intensive way to start a career within the childcare sector. The course primarily focuses on the growth and development of children from birth to 16. It has seven modules which cover the following aspects: Personal Development Human Growth and Development from birth to old age Food and Nutrition Healthy and safety Care of children Play and Practical Activities Orientation to work Programmes The course will also enable you to brush up on your literacy and numeracy and become familiar with various legislations within the sector. All learners on this course will complete 36 hours work placement within a nursery or school. This As part of the personal development unit, you will be supported in preparation for employment or further studies. Workshops on CV writing, interview techniques and working within a team are also included. The course is run for two days a week in a friendly environment. Learners are required to sit a multiple question exam and complete a portfolio. This leads to an accredited certificate: CACHE Foundation Award in Caring for Children.

Entry requirements

Ability to read, write and speak about familiar topics and interests (Entry 3 or Level 1), A genuine enthusiasm and interest in children and a willingness to learn.

Future opportunities

You may go on to Employment within the Early Years sector and/or a higher level of qualification such as, CACHE NVQ Level 2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development, CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Childcare and EducationYou may apply for help with childcare, exam or other costs. Assistance may be provided on request for learners with specific learning or physical disabilities.
