Music Technology Advanced Extended Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained from the 90-credit Diploma.  Focusing on a large-scale production project, you will record, mix and master a range of material.  You will also gain the skills to set up and operate live sound equipment in various contexts.

If you do not have GCSE Maths at grade A*-C, you will also develop your skills in maths.  This will support your main programme of study, help with your future progression and enhance your life skills.

Course content

Units studied will include:

  • Planning and Delivering a Music Product
  • Marketing and Promotion in the Music Industry
  • Live Sound Techniques
  • Sound Creation and Manipulation
  • The Music Freelance World
  • Composing Music
  • Maths (if necessary)

Entry requirements

You will need to have successfully completed your first year units to progress to this programme.


Assessment is 100% via coursework through practical and theoretical-based assignments.

Learners studying maths will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress to a specialised course in higher education, start your own business or gain employment within the industry.
