Performing Arts (BTEC) at Norton Hill School and Midsomer Norton Sixth Form

This exciting course offers those who love performing the opportunity to take their practical studies to a new level. It offers you the opportunity to continue your academic studies, gaining a qualification equivalent to one ALevel. You will gain real experience and be encouraged to develop, write, perform, stage and direct new work.
The majority of the course is practical and internally assessed with an emphasis on performance – Dance, Drama or a mixture of both.
During this two-year course, you will develop your skills in a range of optional units; from contemporary dance, dance choreography, to musical theatre; drama, acting styles and physical theatre.
What should I expect?
A majority of practical Dance and/or Drama activities; Development Dance and/or Drama skills; Dance and theatre trips;
5 A*- C/9-4 grades at GCSE or equivalent and previous experience in Performing Arts: Dance and/or Drama
Units covered in the course:
Investigating practitioners work
Developing skills and techniques for live performance
Group performance workshop/choreography
Optional unit - physical theatre/jazz/contemporary etc
Assessed through performances to a live audience;
Some project deadlines that will involve written tasks; Additional qualification: Arts Award Gold
The course is suitable for students wanting to pursue performing arts (Dance and Drama) as a career.
