Mathematics at Waseley Hills High School and Sixth Form Centre
This course consists of 3 modules, 2 in Pure Mathematics (C1 and C2) and 1 in the Applied Mathematics area of Decision Mathematics. These lead to an award at Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level in Mathematics (8371). The Pure Mathematics component develops techniques in areas of Algebra, Functions, Coordinate Geometry in the (x,y) plane, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Exponentials and Logarithms, Differentiation and Integration. In the Decision Mathematics module, students are introduced to algorithms, route inspection problems, linear programming and critical path analysis.
The 3 modules used to complete this A level qualification in Mathematics (9371) consist of 2 Pure Modules and 1 Applied Mathematics module in the area of Mechanics. The Pure Modules extend the work studied in Year 12 and introduce additional topics such as Numerical Methods and Vectors. In the Mechanics module, students are introduced to Mathematical Models in Mechanics, Vectors in Mechanics, Kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line, Dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line or plane, Statics of a particle and Moments.
