Engineering Level 2 Diploma (and Units of Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations Level 1) at Coleg y Cymoedd
This BTEC Diploma is a practical, work related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The course covers the basic knowledge and technical practical skills, providing a good foundation for future career opportunities, or progression onto a more advanced work-related qualification.
You will also study an NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations, to supplement your theoretical studies. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate and BTEC level 2 Award in Work-skills.
The BTEC Diploma is made up of the following units: Applications of mechanical and electrical science, using secondary machining techniques, Applications of quality control, Engineering marking out, Selecting engineering materials, Using CAD techniques in Engineering. The NVQ level 1 certificate includes 2 practical units: Bench Fitting, and Centre Lathe Turning, and is underpinned by a further 3 core units.
For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales fits in with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising. The Welsh Baccalaureate also provides the opportunity to study Essential Skills Wales qualification at an appropriate level. As part of the Work-skills qualification, you will be taught the best ways of searching for a job, applying for a job and preparing for an interview.
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including Maths, English & Science.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
The course is assessed by a range of methods, including practical projects, assignments, case studies and course work. Your portfolio will be graded with an overall grade for the qualification awarded.
FT Registration Fee - £20.00
On successful completion of this course you will have the opportunity to progress onto a level 3 Diploma/Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering, but is subject to a grading board and interview. Many learners have gained apprenticeships following the successful completion of this course.
