Course description

Graphics and Illustration are all around us, explaining, decorating and imposing meaning on the world we live in. From children's books to magazine layouts, this course will introduce you to the expansive world of graphics and illustration and give you the opportunity to experiment and explore a wide range of contemporary and traditional graphic processes, combined with other varied, important and relevant art and design skills. We aim to develop learners who are innovative thinkers and problem-solvers, to create determined artists and designers, as well as inspiring you to develop original and exciting artwork.

Entry requirements

You will need to show a portfolio of creative work at interview. You will need to be motivated and have a passion for art and design. You need to have achieved 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design with merit or distinction grades, and a proven record of attendance. If you do not have Maths and/or English at grade 4 (grade C), you can take Functional Skills classes in these subjects at college or study GCSEs if you have gained grade 4 (grade D) previously.


Project work is set with structured achievable targets organised around practical assessment. You will also discuss project work through group critiques, with verbal feedback from tutors and peers. Regular tutorials and reviews will take place with your personal tutor to discuss targets and progress.

Future opportunities

Most of our students go on to Higher Education, Apprenticeships or employment. Our students can progress to the best degree courses in the country in every subject.
