IT BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

This course provides a practical based approach to computing for anybody wishing either to work in the industry directly, or progress to a second year and complete the Diploma.

Course content

It is a one year course 6 Units are covered. This course aims to provide a practical based approach to computing for anybody wishing to work in the industry, or progress to higher education study of the subject. The SubDip is the equivalent of 1 A-Level.

  • Communication & employability skills
  • Communications technologies
  • Computer systems
  • HCI
  • Information systems
  • IT systems troubleshooting
  • Organisational systems security
  • Principles of software design & development
  • Website production & management

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally possess 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above - including Maths and English) equivalents will be considered. You will also need to provide satisfactory references.


On going assessment of coursework by completion of set assignments.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

These qualifications can lead directly on to the BTEC Diploma by completion of a second year. Alternatively employment opportunities after completion include trainee e - commerce developers, trainee positions in management information systems or systems support.
