Fashion & Design Intermediate at Dv8 Sussex

Course description

Build on your experience and enthusiasm for Fashion & Design by learning the skills to put your ideas into practice. Working in a small, personalised group setting with real-life industry briefs and work experience opportunities, this course gives you the perfect start to a future in fashion.

Gain confidence in fashion illustration, pattern cutting and digital design through working on projects independently and in groups. Practical classroom work combines with trips to fashion shows and exhibitions to introduce you to a range of styles and approaches. Understanding the industry is key to being successful and throughout the year

Course content


• Gain a firm understanding of fashion illustration, pattern cutting and garment construction

• Learn to use a variety

of sewing machines and construct garments on a range of mannequins

• Work to real-life client commissions (previous projects have included working with Topshop and Jury’s Inn)

• Build a portfolio of work and learn how to market yourself professionally online with blogs and digital marketing

• Explore different careers in the fashion industry

• Visit a variety of fashion exhibitions, shows and studios

• Work on projects in collaboration with Music, Media and Events students

• Showcase your work through a fashion show


• Achieve OCR L2 Subsidiary Diploma in Art & Design

• Gain a firm understanding of fashion illustration, pattern cutting and garment construction

• Build a professional portfolio

• Explore various roles within the fashion industry and complete a Relevant work experience placement

• Progress to Art foundation courses (dependent on prior attainment), Level 3 courses in Fashion, Textiles, Costume Design, Stage Design

Entry requirements

• Relevant vocational experience and/or qualifications

• English or Maths at GCSE grade 3 or above

Ages : 16-18

Duration : 1 year, 3 days per week

    • Dv8 Sussex has campuses in Bexhill and Brighton. Both sites have teaching spaces that are fully equipped with Apple Mac computers, with audio visual equipment, especially designed for music production, fashion (Brighton campus), media and live events (Brighton) with the Brighton campus also featuring a fashion and design suite. The Bexhill campus is located within a renovated church, and has 2 impressive performance spaces including a sanctuary theatre. Brighton and Bexhill campuses both have learner common areas and kitchens.
