A Level Geography at Theale Green School

Course description

You do not have to have studied Geography at GCSE level to take an AS or A-level in the subject, although it would be a great advantage since some of the topics covered in the course are developments of works covered in the GCSE. You should have a lively and enquiring mind, with a true interest in the environment and current affairs. Also important is the ability to communicate your ideas effectively, although this is a skill that will develop through the duration of the course.

Topics include: Topic 1 World at risk;Topic 2 Going Global; Topic 1 Crowded coasts; Topic 2 Rebranding places; Topic 1 Energy security; Topic 2 Water conflicts; Topic 3 Biodiversity; Topic 4 Superpower

You will develop a number of transferable skills such as; collecting, analysing and interpreting data; communicating your findings in different ways; and identifying and developing the links between parts of the subject. These skills are in great demand by employers and university admissions tutors. There are a number of fieldwork opportunities throughout the course, including a residential fieldwork course in Shropshire to prepare for the AS Level Environmental Investigation.

Entry requirements
