Course description

The course aims for students are: To acquire a knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary social processes and structures To appreciate the significance of theoretical and conceptual issues in sociological debate To use and understand sociological methods and a range of research methods To reflect on the social world we live in and enhance their ability to participate more effectively in adult life. Syllabus AQA (2008) Future - Useful for a legal career, medicine, teaching, local and national government Unit 1: Culture and identity - families and households, wealth, poverty and welfare Unit 2: Education, health - sociological methods Unit 3: Beliefs in Society, global development, mass media power and politics Unit 4: Crime and deviance, stratification and differentiation theory methods

Entry requirements

A grade ‘B’ in English is helpful.

Future opportunities

Careers - Law, Medicine, Social Policy, Civil Service, Teaching, Police. Most professions now have sociological aspects to their training courses.
