Physical Education AS A2 at Bishop Stopford CE School

Course description

In A Level PE, you will develop a theoretical understanding of the physiological, psychological and sociological factors that underpin sporting performance.

It combines well with other subjects, and will lead to a huge range of further opportunities such as sports science related courses at university, and careers in the sports and fitness careers sector.

Course content

In Year 12 (AS) you will study:

Unit 1
An introduction to PE
Unit 2
Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in PE

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C is a minimum entry requirement, although we recommend an average of 8 Grade C GCSEs.

A GCSE in PE is not a pre-requisite for the course but a GCSE at grade C would be beneficial.


This course is assessed with a combination of examinations and coursework:
Unit 1 - 60%

Unit 2- 40%

Financial information

You may need to purchase additional texts or equipment for further personal study.

Further information

You are expected to participate in sporting activities at school, district, county or club level to help with understanding and performance. You will also be able to run clubs for students lower down the school.

Whilst all our courses are compatable with each other, the timetable may limit some combinations.
