Science (Applied) - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Tech City College

Course description

Science doesn’t just happen in a laboratory. It’s all around us, shaping the world we live in and changing the way we live. This course takes a hands-on approach to science and you will be required to carry out your own research projects and investigations. You will develop your scientific skills through studying a range of modules, which may include the use of mathematical tools in science, microbiology, genetics and chemical laboratory techniques.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C or above including Science, English and Maths or a Merit from a Level 2 technical programme in science.


You will be assessed through essays, group work, small research projects, practical investigations and presentations.

Future opportunities

This qualification can lead directly to a number of related degree courses such as applied sciences, forensic science, food science, sports science, nursing, podiatry, physiotherapy, radiography, microbiology, biomedical science, and environmental science. You can also progress onto a Higher National Diploma, or pursue employment as a laboratory technician.
