Womens and Men's Hairdressing Diploma - Level 2 at Crawley College

Course description

You’ll apply your natural creativity and flair to a wide range of hairdressing skills, preparing for your salon career. You’ll learn different cutting and styling techniques for both women and men, as well as more advanced practices such as colouring and the art of dressing hair.

The aim of this course is to prepare you to work as a hairdresser with both ladies' and men's hair.  You will also be able to undertake a period of work placement and will work with clients in our salons.

Units covered are:

  • Health and Safety
  • Client consultation
  • Shampoo and condition hair
  • Promote products
  • Cut women's hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Cut men's hair
  • Styling men's hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • Display stock to promote sales in the Salon

Entry requirements

Candidates will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade D including English and maths. You may also have completed the Level 1 programme in Hair and Beauty.

Financial information

16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.

Students aged over 19 on the start date of their studies, have to pay tuition fees. In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and exam fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.

Future opportunities

You will gain the City and Guilds Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Women's and Men's Hairdressing allowing you to progress on to the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or enter straight into employment as a Level 2 Apprentice, where you'll earn while you learn.
