Course description
Unit 1 and 2 comprises of 11 units of which students complete two examples are: • Philosophy of Religion; • Religion and Ethics; • Religion, Philosophy and Science. Units 3 and 4 build on units studied. Choices include: • Life Death and Beyond; • Perceptions of Ultimate Reality.
Course content
The AQA Religious Studies Specification encourages: – rigorous study of religion and its effect on understanding Western thought and the wider world – developing knowledge and understanding of religion and the continuing debates in shaping the world we live in – adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to study – reflect on and develop values and attitudes, while substantiating personal opinions in the light of a new understanding. The essential skills include a need to be critical.
Entry requirements
Religious Studies to grade B is preferred, though clear critical thinking skills are essential.

Year 12: AS Award. Units 1 and 2: An Introduction to Religious Studies Year 13: A2 Award. Unit 3 Studies in Religion; Unit 4 Religion and Human Experience
Future opportunities
At university the subject is highly rated in a variety of subject areas where you will be expected to articulate a consistent argument e.g. law; international relations; politics; journalism; and other humanities subjects especially theology, philosophy, sociology or psychology. The skills taught are always highly valued by employers as they require adaptability and initiative in their staff.

Teaching methods include: • encouraging creative skills like model making and story boards to clarify ideas and re-order thinking. • Team debates to practice structuring formal arguments. • Group work and individual presentations. Note taking and essay writing practice are key skills taught.
