Further Mathematics A Level at Canons High School
Students who have excelled at Mathematics, especially the topic of algebra.
You will need to complete 6 modules for the full Further Mathematics A level. In the first year you will complete the A level ( see Mathematics info sheet)
In the second year you will study:
Further Pure Mathematics 1. Topics include series; complex numbers, numerical solution of equations and proof by induction.
Mechanics 2. Topics include modeling, vectors and their applications, kinematics of a particle, statics of a particle, dynamics, moments, centre of mass, energy and projectiles.
Further Pure Mathematics 2. Topics include inequalities, first order differential equations, second order differential equations, further complex numbers, Maclaurin and Taylor series. You will also study Statistics 2 and Decision 1 and 2.
6 A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. Grade A/A* in Mathematics is required.
There are six exams for this level of which two are Pure Mathematics (FP1) and (FP2). The other four exams are all applied and you will do four out of the following six exams depending on which modules are studied for Mathematics A level:
Mechanics 1 (M1), Mechanics 2 (M2), Decision 1 (D1), Decision 2 (D2), Statistics 1 (S1) and Statistics 2 (S2).
A vocation in many areas to include accountancy, Actuarial science, banking, finance, consultancy, teaching and many more.
