CHEMISTRY AS/A2 (AQA) at Royds School
Chemistry is the study of how substances interact and react together. It is understanding the foundation of life and the materials that make up our world.
Inorganic Chemistry - where you will learn about Group 2, Group 7, the halogens, properties of period 3 elements and their oxides, transition metals.
Organic Chemistry - where you will learn about Aldehydes, Ketones, Aromatic Chemistry, Amines, Amino Acids, Protein and DNA. NMR and Chromatography.
Physical Chemistry - where you will learn about bonding, energetics, kinetics, chemical equilibria, redox, acids and bases.
5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above. Chemistry is a demanding A level course and we would expect candidates to have achieved at least a grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or Additional Science Higher tier. We would also expect students to achieve a 5 in Maths and a 4 in English. It is strongly recommended that you study A level Maths alongside this qualification.
Three written papers 2 hours each.

Chemistry based degrees - Pure Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Colour Chemistry.
