Travel and Tourism at Joseph Swan Academy

Course description

Travel and Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Each year around 922 million tourists travel around the world spending nearly £600 billion. The UK alone earns £24 billion per year from foreign tourists. We spend £45 billion on tourism. One in every eight people is employed in the tourist industry. If you are interested in a career in this multi-billion pound industry, a Level 3 qualification in Travel and Tourism is a good starting point.

This qualification gives you an overview of travel and tourism and how the different components link together.

You will explore real organisations and become familiar with the products and services that they offer to customers. You will study the UK and Europe as tourist destinations and learn to appreciate the wide variety of attractions, accommodation, transport and services that they have to offer.

You will investigate the customer services of two different organisations and identify the principles of good customer service. By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of the career options available including Event Management, Tourism Development, Tour Guiding Services, Hotel Management and Customer Services.

Entry requirements

None, although a Travel and Tourism First Award at Merit is preferred, but not essential
