You will be introduced to a wide variety of experiences exploring a range of art media, techniques and processes and will have the opportunity to work with both traditional and new technologies. You will explore relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to art and design from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples and your responses to these examples will be evidenced through practical and critical activities which demonstrate your understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.You will explore 2D and 3D visual communication using a variety of methods and media on a variety of scales; and will use sketchbooks to underpin your work where appropriate. Areas of study you will explore are:
- painting and drawing
- mixed media, including collage and assemblage
- land art
- printmaking: relief, intaglio, screen processes
- graphic design
In order to get the most from this course you will need to have competent drawing skills, the ability to develop creative, original ideas. An interest in some aspect of Art and Design is desirable.
You will have five hours of study per week and could gain a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
A Pass in the BTEC is equivalent to four C 's at GCSE, a Merit equals four B's and a Distinction Two A's and two A*s.
Progression onto AS Art & Design. At Bradford College and other nearby colleges, a broad range of further education courses are available. The Art and Design industry is the largest employer in Europe and careers in illustration, product design, fashion and textiles, animation and architecture are just a few.
