Physical Education - Btec National Extended Certificate at Alexandra Park School
Btecs offer practical experience that is often lacking in more traditional routes such as GCE AS/A2 Levels. The aim of this course is to develop your theoretical and practical knowledge of Sport through working towards a Level 3 nationally recognised qualification. The course is also designed to prepare you for higher education in sports and exercise science or a career in the sport and leisure industry.
The Pearson Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport consists of three mandatory units plus one optional unit completed over 2 years. Two of the units are assessed through coursework which is internally assessed and externally moderated. One unit is an external exam. The remaining synoptic unit is a task set and marked by Pearson but completed under supervised conditions. This course takes place in one option block and is broadly equivalent to one A level.
An interest in the theories, ideas and strategies within sport is a pre-requisite of the course. You will need to have a minimum of a Grade C or above in Maths, English and Science. Students that have previously studied PE should also have achieved at least a grade C or above at GCSE level or a Merit or above on a BTEC Level 2 course. It is also recommended that you are a current member of a sporting team.
Unit 3 - Internally assessed
Unit 2 - Externally assessed
Unit 1 - Externally assessed
Unit 4 - Internally assessed
This course will prepare you for work within the sport and leisure industry, including roles in coaching, sports medicine, centre management and working in outdoor education. It will also be beneficial if you are interested in tertiary education regarding human biology or sport, for example physiotherapy, physical education or exercise physiology.
