Creative Writing AS & A Level at Ashlyns School

Course description

This is a course for students who are talented in creative and imaginative writing, whether that be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or script. You will need to be keen readers who are willing to take on the level of reading required in this A Level – it is not possible to study creative writing without studying other writers! You will be reading and studying a wide variety of genres, including fiction, journalism in its many forms, online writing, persuasive writing, reviews, and creative non-fiction, supplemented with your own independent reading, to develop your ability to think clearly, discuss confidently, read perceptively, and write coherently. 60% of the course is assessed through coursework.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSE A-C grades, including English Language and English Literature at B grade or above.

Future opportunities

An A Level in Creative Writing is suitable for those intending to study English Literature, as well as journalism, media, film or art.
