Further Mathematics AS/A-Level at Haydon School
The course is offered to students who will be likely to achieve an A* at GCSE and wish to take both Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-Level. The Further Mathematics course is highly recommended for students who wish to take mathematics or a mathematically related subject at degree level. Some top Universities are now only accepting applications for Mathematics for students who have taken both Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
The course follows the EDEXCEL syllabus. It is a modular course that requires the completion of six modules in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The modules taken are Core Maths1 (C1), Core Maths2 (C2), and Mechanics1 (M1) or Statistics1 (S1) – forming the standard AS mathematics course. The additional units for Further Pure Mathematics AS are Decision Maths1 (D1) and Further Mathematics 1 (FP1) and Mechanics1 (M1) or Statistics1 (S1). This qualifies for the award of an AS-Level in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
The course builds upon the work completed in Year 12. Students will take two more core mathematics modules, two more further pure mathematics modules and two more applied mathematics modules. This qualifies for the award of an A-Level in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
