Fitness Instructing Level 2 at Bexhill College

Course description

This one year course is for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in the fitness industry and leads to a Level 2 and Level 3 qualification. The Level 2 course enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding of instructing clients in physical activities and gym based sessions and gives them the opportunity, upon completion of the course, to become a Level 2 qualified Fitness Instructor, plus a Level 3 in Personal Training. This qualification will allow students to become a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

Course content

You will be studying a range of modules designed to give you the most up to date knowledge of the fitness industry. This course combines units that will incorporate fitness instructing, knowledge of anatomy and physiology and of business. All students are required to attend a compulsory work placement. The course will have large practical elements and students will be expected to participate in, lead and develop fitness instructing sessions for classmates and other college students. The lessons will take place in classrooms, the college gym as well as other college sports facilities.

Entry requirements

Most students undertaking the course have already achieved a full level 2 or level 3 qualification.
Direct entry at 16 years old is by exception and minimum qualifications would be 3-4 GCSEs at 4/C and above.


Students will be required to produce a detailed written portfolio for their course and build up a vast amount of evidence throughout the year in order to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the content. This course is assessed 100% on coursework.
Students have to successfully achieve Level 2 to progress to Level 3.

There is a practical kit which students will be expected to wear to all lessons.
