Exploring the Caring Sectors Level 1 Diploma at Lakes College West Cumbria

Course description

This course is for those interested in an introduction to care and caring for children and who would like to take the first step into a career within the childcare or care industry. This course is perfect for those who might not have much experience in the area and will provide you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the underpinning principles of care. Students will also be expected to complete a work placement as part of their qualification (subject to a criminal background check). Maths and English will be at the core of your study programme. Entry requirements

You will need Grade D at GCSE in either English or Maths. You will also need a DBS Check. The course has a possible placement element and this will take place for students who excel in behaviour and application to their studies.

Financial information

Free to all 16-18 and 19-23 year olds where needed as a stepping stone to progress to a Full Level 2. Also free to learners who are in receipt of JSA (Job Seekers Allowance) ESA ((Employment Support Allowance, (work related activity)) or Universal Credit (mandated). Where fees are payable you can set up a payment plan that best suits your needs

Future opportunities

Once you have successfully completed the Level 1 course you could progress onto Level 2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development or the Level 2 in Health & Social Care.
