Vocational Studies Level 1 Introductory Certificate at Eastleigh College

Course description

If you are undecided about a particular programme or career pathway, this programme will enable you to take a further year to sample a number of exciting vocational options, life skills and basic skills.

Course content

The programme is made up of a variety of subjects which include art, catering, health/childcare, motor vehicle, engineering, woodwork, hairdressing, performing arts, sport and travel and tourism.

There will be the opportunity to undertake work experience and work related learning activities.

Entry requirements

You will need to complete a successful interview in college demonstrating interest, enthusiasm, reliability and commitment to study.


Methods of teaching will include practical sessions, written assignments and role play. Undertaking voluntary work placements or a part-time job to gain experience and confidence in the workplace is encouraged.

All students without a GCSE at grade A*-C in English or Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.

Financial information

Additional costs incurred or requirements of the programme include:

  • Steel toe-capped boots and overall if taking motor vehicle, engineering or construction (necessary for the students health and safety
  • Requirement to attend trips/ industry visits etc.
  • Team building activity day

The programme cost is full funded.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of the programme, you may progress to a Level 2 programme, an Apprenticeship or employment.

Previous students have progressed to all other areas in the College including, art, catering, health and social care, travel and tourism, carpentry, construction, hairdressing, motor vehicle and many others.
