Students who wish to extend their knowledge as IT users, with practical applications relevant to the real world. BTEC are qualifications that are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications.You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment within the IT sector.
What will I study during the First Year & how will it be assessed?
Unit 1: Communication & Employability Skills for IT (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to ensure that students understand both the personal attributes valued by employers and the principles of communicating effectively whist developing effective communication skills and addressing their own personal development needs.
Unit 2: Computer Systems (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to enable students to understand the components of computer systems and develop the skills needed to recommend appropriate systems for business purposes and set up and maintain computer systems.
Unit 8: e-Commerce (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to ensure that students know the technologies involved in e-commerce, understand the impact of e-commerce on organisations and on society, and that they are able to plan e-commerce strategies.
What will I study during the Second Year & how will it be assessed?
Unit 42: Spreadsheet Modelling (Coursework)
This unit aims to enable students to use complex spreadsheet modelling in order to support organisational activities such as credit control, sales forecasting and stock analysis
Unit 18: Database Design (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to enable students to understand the features of relational databases and to develop the skills necessary to design, create, populate and test a relational database incorporating advanced features.
Unit 34: Business Resources (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to develop student knowledge of the range of human, physical, technological and financial resources required in an organisation, and how the management of these resources can impact on business performance.
Unit 7: Systems Security (Coursework)
The aim of this unit is to enable students to understand potential threats to IT systems and the organisational issues related to IT security, and know how to keep systems and data secure from these threats.
